Environmental Services Supervisor
Job Summary:
Essential Functions:
- Adhere to South Carolina Aquarium Policies & Procedures.
- Develop and maintain a highly qualified, motivated and diverse staff.
- Schedule staff for efficient operations during and outside of operational hours; review and approve employees’ hours worked.
- Coordinate and execute regular training for all ES team members.
- Provide staff feedback on team performance.
- Provide customer service to guests and manage guest concerns.
- Support ES operations during large and/or complex special events.
- Help prepare and reset the building during weather-related events that affect operations.
- Administer a new task and request management system.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for the department.
- Manage department inventory.
- Responsible for purchasing and purchasing reconciliation for department.
- Assumes responsibilities of Environmental Services Associates as needed.
- Must be able to work 40 hours a week (including weekends), which may include holidays and some overtime.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Active member of the Aquarium’s Safety Team and Operations Team.
- Supports the mission by participating in Aquarium sponsored programs and events on a regular basis.
- Support the team structure of the organization by remaining responsive to the needs of the management and supervisors, filling in when and where needed.
- Attend South Carolina Aquarium full staff and departmental meetings when requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and ability to operate and repair cleaning equipment.
- Proficient in all MS Office Products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
- Strong conflict resolution and deescalation skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with visitors and staff personnel.
- Ability to coordinate and work with front-line staff in a fast pace, changing, work environment.
- Excellent communication, Customer service and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of a variety of floor surfaces to include terrazzo, tile and carpet.
- Working knowledge of chemical usage and SDS.
- First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to be trained
Education and Experience Required:
- High School Degree or GED.
- Leadership experience.

Physical Requirements:
Requires average walking, standing, bending, stooping, and crouching, climbing ladders, sitting, kneeling, balancing, pushing and pulling, crawling, working with tools, computer tasks and phone usage; should be able to lift/carry at least 50 lbs.
Hazardous Requirements:
Average exposure to minor or severe cuts; falls; falling objects; hazards to eyesight, hearing and sense of smell; and tight spaces. Often requires use of personal protective equipment due to exposure to chemicals, hazardous materials, and blood borne pathogens.
Working Conditions:
This position requires works in both an office environment and outdoors, sometimes in extreme weather including both hot and cold; requires weekend and late-night work as needed; requires contact with customers, the general public, and outside vendors; requires carrying a cell phone and radio.
Weekends are required (Saturday and Sunday). Open to either 10-hour work shifts (4 days) or 8-hour work shifts (5 days). Position will include working some opening and closing shifts that fall before and after normal operational hours.
