Intermodal Service Employees operate heavy machinery, conduct inspections, perform securement tasks, and follow strict safety protocols established by the Federal Railroad Administration and industry standards. The role demands a balance of physical tasks — including climbing, lifting, and maneuvering heavy equipment — with clerical responsibilities such as data entry and utilizing Microsoft Office and specialized systems to track freight and equipment status. Employees must be knowledgeable in hazardous materials handling and minor spill response as well. Maintaining compliance with securement regulations, conducting airbrake tests, and performing routine equipment maintenance are also key parts of the position, requiring technical proficiency and attention to detail.
