Pharmacy Technician (Retail Pharmacy) - Full-Time
The Retail Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the technical aspects of medication distribution and pharmacy operations, working within the Pharmacy Technician’s scope of practice, in accordance with the Drug and Pharmacies Regulation Act, Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) standards, and organizational policies. Working collaboratively with Retail Pharmacists, inpatient hospital pharmacy teams, and interprofessional partners, the Pharmacy Technician supports safe, accurate, timely dispensing and coordination of medications and medical devices for patients, and provides exceptional patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform technical verification of prescriptions within scope of practice, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with legislation and organizational policies.
- Prepare, package, and label medications, including unit-dose, compliance packaging, and specialty medications, and support compounding and reconstitution where permitted
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure proper handling and storage of medications, including controlled substances.
- Assist with processing, transferring, and clarifying prescriptions, medication changes, and coordination of medication access
- Assist in the operational management of pharmacy inventory, including ordering, expiry monitoring, stock rotation, stock level maintenance, and supporting loss prevention in accordance with established procedures and criteria.
- Support the preparation, education and coordination of medical devices and supplies (e.g., inhalers, injection devices, glucose monitoring supplies, enteral or specialty products)
- Communicate operational issues related to prescription coverage, medication or device availability, and workflow constraints to the pharmacist for clinical assessment and resolution.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy and health information legislation.
- Work collaboratively with retail and hospital pharmacy teams to support safe and efficient services.
- Support regulatory inspections, audits, and accreditation processes as required
- Provide clear and respectful communication to patients regarding technical aspects of prescriptions, referring all clinical questions, assessments, and therapeutic decisions to the pharmacist
- Respond to inquiries from hospital teams related to prescription status, dispensing timelines, and operational coordination, escalating clinical issues to the pharmacist as required.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma from an accredited Pharmacy technician Program
- Registered Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a community or outpatient pharmacy environment
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
