Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Rush University Medical Center is a leading healthcare institution seeking a Director of Strategic Procurement & Supplier Management. This role is responsible for overseeing procurement operations and supplier management across the health system, managing over $1 billion in annual spend, and ensuring strategic alignment with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and lead an enterprise supplier management framework that includes supplier segmentation, performance scorecards, QBRs, corrective action plans, and executive-level governance
- Assume primary accountability for strategic supplier management activities, ensuring consistent methodology, transparency, and cross-functional input
- Drive supplier outcomes related to cost, quality, service, risk, innovation, and ESG - collaborating closely with Finance, Sourcing, Value Analysis, and operational leaders
- Promote supplier-enabled innovation by facilitating pilots, co-development opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives with high-value partners
- Oversee Clinical and Non-Clinical Purchasing teams for Rush System. Maintain primary Distributor relationship and processes, including the use of 3PL program
- Partner with Strategic Sourcing to ensure that sourcing strategies, category roadmaps, rebates, and award decisions translate into executable contracts, catalog structures, and P2P workflows that fully enable compliant spend
- Oversee the end-to-end Procurement and P2P process, including requisitioning, purchasing, PO management, ensuring alignment with sourcing decisions, contract terms, and system controls
- Implement and maintain common standards for pricing accuracy, contract language, terms and conditions, and data structures to support accurate, actionable spend analytics
- Collaborate with Finance to align procurement and supplier strategies with budgeting, forecasting, and cost-reduction targets, shifting appropriate decision-making authority into Strategic Procurement where it enhances speed, accountability, and value
- Partner with Value Analysis and operational leaders to support product conversions and technology transitions, including planning, communication, training, and post-implementation monitoring
- Ensure that Procurement and Supplier Management functions provide strong analytical, contracting, and operational support to Value Analysis teams and committees
- Integrate change management practices into procurement and supplier initiatives to minimize disruption, support adoption, and ensure measurable benefits realization
- Support ESG team’s requirements for reporting progress on key metrics tied to suppliers
- Lead Strategic Procurement team focused on service, innovation, and continuous improvement
- Coach and develop leaders and staff; foster an inclusive, collaborative culture that encourages problem-solving, experimentation, and cross-functional partnership
- Represent Strategic Procurement & Supplier Management in system-level committees, governance forums, and external partnerships (e.g., GPOs, collaboratives)
- Drive Accountability in team with consistent tracking of metrics, KPIs, and advocate for them related departments within and around Supply Chain
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field of study
- A minimum of five years of progressively increasing management experience within supply chain management and/or hospital operations, preferably in a healthcare environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of strategic sourcing, procurement, contracting, and supplier management concepts with a record of cost reduction and value creation
- Experience partnering with Finance on budgets, forecasting, and cost-reduction initiatives
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving change across complex organizations
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills; proficiency in ERP Supply Chain and related digital solutions
- Excellent relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
- Advanced strategic procurement and supplier management expertise (ideally in healthcare)
- Strong financial acumen
- Deep ERP/P2P experience (preferably Workday)
- Proven ability to manage supplier performance (scorecards/QBRs), lead complex change, and influence senior leaders while building high-performing teams
- Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Hospital Administration, or related field preferred
- Experience with Workday, Academic Medical Centers preferred
