Sailing Program Instructor

Job Overview
The Saint Croix Yacht Club Sailing Association located in the U.S. Virgin Islands seeks a full-time, year-round Sailing Program Sail Master & Coach to lead and grow a sailing program serving youth and adults of all ages and skill levels. This will be a salaried exempt position.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned sailing instructor, a recent college graduate ready to step into a coaching role, or a retired professional with dinghy coaching and administrative experience who’s looking to stay actively involved in the sport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach dinghy sailing for youth and adults, from beginner through advanced levels
  • Plan and deliver safe, engaging, age-appropriate on-the-water and class instruction
  • Ensure instruction aligns with Sailing best practices and safety standards
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the sailing program
  • Support the growth and development of a year-round curriculum and seasonal programming, including after school programs, weekend classes, specialty clinics, and summer sailing programs
  • Recruit, train and manage adjunct and part-time sailing instructors including performance feedback
  • Work with regatta committee before/during regatta events
  • Assist in maintaining the sailing fleet by inspecting boats and equipment
  • Assist Fleet Captain with inventory and order replacement parts and equipment
  • Identify maintenance and repair needs and report required repairs to the Fleet Captain
  • Help ensure all boats and equipment are safe and program-ready
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians
  • Develop partnerships with local schools, youth organizations, and community groups
  • Support outreach initiatives that expand access to sailing across St. Croix
  • Represent the Sailing Association at community and sailing-related events
  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed

Requirements:

  • Well-developed dinghy coaching experience
  • Experience driving a motorboat/coach boat in a safe manner
  • Proven track of coaching and instructing children and adults
  • Experience managing instructors and running youth sailing programs
  • Proven ability to lead a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • US Sailing Instructor Certification(s) (or ability to obtain)
  • US Sailing STEM Educator Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • First Aid/ CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to work weekdays, weekends and special events as required
