Role Overview This Senior Health Care Assistant role sits at the heart of a busy outpatient environment where patient experience, safety, and teamwork matter every day. You will provide high-quality hands-on care, support clinic flow, and act as a role model for junior staff. The position blends clinical skills with leadership responsibilities — helping ensure patients receive efficient, compassionate care while clinics run smoothly. You will work closely with nurses, educators, and managers to strengthen staff capability and maintain excellent standards across the department. What You’ll Be Doing Your responsibilities combine direct patient care, coordination, and mentoring: Patient Care & Clinical Support Welcoming patients and carrying out routine clinical observations and tests Monitoring patient wellbeing and escalating concerns promptly Supporting intimate examinations as a chaperone Maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation Clinic Coordination Preparing patient notes and ensuring results are available Managing clinic flow safely and efficiently Arranging interpreters or patient transport when required Maintaining safe, stocked consulting environments Team Leadership Supporting training and induction of junior HCAs Delegating tasks appropriately Acting as a role model for evidence-based practice Working with educators to strengthen staff competence Safety & Governance Ensuring equipment readiness and cleanliness Following infection prevention, fire safety, and incident reporting procedures Maintaining confidentiality and information governance standards Who This Role Suits This role is ideal for someone who: Enjoys patient-facing clinical work Can prioritise effectively in a fast-moving environment Communicates with empathy and clarity Supports colleagues and encourages learning Maintains attention to detail and patient safety Essential Qualifications & Experience Applicants should demonstrate: NHS or NHS primary care experience or recent acute hospital experience as an internationally educated clinician A Care Certificate from an Ofqual-regulated provider Evidence of higher-level clinical skill development Functional English and Maths qualification (Level 2 or equivalent) Desirable: outpatient department experience.
