Supervisory Attorney-Advisor (Deputy Regional Counsel)

About the position

This position is located in the Office of Regional Counsel for Region 1 at the EPA. The role involves providing legal advice and policy recommendations related to federal environmental statutes affecting Agency programs. The selected candidate will act as the main legal resource for the agency, ensuring legal consistency in enforcement matters and preparing necessary documentation for publication in the Federal Register.

Responsibilities

  • Review and resolve legal questions related to federal environmental statutes affecting Agency programs.
  • Provide legal advice and policy recommendations to the Regional Administrator and staff of Regional programs.
  • Provide legal and policy advice on EPA enforcement matters, ensuring legal consistency and supporting investigations.
  • Draft and review final agency determinations, proposals, and final regulations, and other documents for publication in the Federal Register.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess a J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university or equivalent apprentice experience as allowed per state law.
  • Must be duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of any state, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Must be an active member of the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction in good standing.
  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level, including independently performing legal analysis and leading junior attorneys.
