About the position

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking a part-time employee to work on research data reporting assignments that are of moderate diversity in scope. The role involves exercising judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. The position includes responsibilities such as curation and annotation of membrane protein structures, analysis and uploading of structural data, backlog management, and collaboration with the mpstruc team.

Responsibilities

• Review and curate new membrane protein structures deposited in the wwPDB.
• Annotate preliminary protein structures and extract relevant biological information.
• Analyze structural data and upload the structures to the mpstruc database, ensuring the database remains up-to-date.
• Address the backlog of entries, ensuring that new structures are uploaded promptly, processing 5-10 new papers per week.
• Participate in weekly Zoom meetings with the mpstruc team or IT staff to discuss progress and future tasks.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of research function.
• Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design and data security measures.
• Working skills in analysis and consultation.
• Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience.
